๐Ÿ„ 2024 Bates Green Gallop ๐Ÿฎย

15th September 2024
Thank you to our members Chris & Victoria Little for this race report ๐Ÿ–คโค๏ธ
The great thing about a local event is that you don’t have to get up at silly o’clock to get there. Lots of parking, toilets and a bag drop in the aid station, so whatever you needed was accessible. The morning started with a free raffle, where race numbers were picked out and the oohs and ahhs could be heard when the prizes were announced, free entry to next year’s event, a pair of trainers and a cooling towel to name a few ๐ŸŽ
This run was all about distance rather than time. The setting was the woods ๐ŸŒณ and fields of Bates Green Farm, Arlington (the location of our Relay event last month).
Each lap was roughly 3.6 miles and the cut off was 6 hours- so, as many laps as each runner wanted to do in that time.
It was a warm day and the route was lovely- each lap we’d get to know the course slightly better ๐ŸŒพ๐ŸŒฝ. The second half of the loop contained more of the ‘ups’ and by the next lap they’d got that little bit tougher ๐Ÿฅต
Chris, Lisa, Tasha and I ran the first 4 laps together- the camaraderie was great and having company certainly made those laps enjoyable.
The beauty of this event was that even when we parted company, you soon spotted someone you knew from another running club or simply found new people to talk / run with on the way round.
Each lap brought us back to the aid station where we basically found a buffet containing salted roast potatoes ๐Ÿฅ”, flapjack, fruit ๐Ÿ‰ plus much more ๐Ÿฌ, before we knew it we’d get sucked in to ‘ok, one more lap then’, added another pink wristband to keep count of laps done and off we went again.
We missed Claire Hope at the group photo at the beginning but spotted her between laps hydrating with a cup of tea- we even commented on how typically English that was- tea in a run ๐Ÿซ–
What a friendly run this was. Encouraged by marshals and other runners, no matter what lap you were on. As we ran towards the aid station, other runners were beginning their next lap and there were cheers of support, we even spotted some Harriers cheering us on- thanks Charlie, Mia and Roberto ๐Ÿ–คโค
Once runners decided to end their run you proudly rang the bell ๐Ÿ”” to show you were done and were presented with your medal (if you’d opted for one).
Time flew by, the laps got that little but harder, legs got more tired but great efforts by all out there! Would we do it again?……most definitely!
Chris Little ๐Ÿ”ฅ completed 7 laps and
Victoria Little ๐Ÿ‘ฎ๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ stopped at 6 laps, both using this for Beachy Head Marathon training.
Lisa Little Legs ๐Ÿฆต๐Ÿป and Tash ๐Ÿน got the 18 miles they needed for their Budapest training and completed 5 laps
Fluffy ๐ŸŒ and Tinks ๐Ÿงš๐Ÿป finished with 4 laps each, again for Budapest training whilst Claire Hope ๐ŸŒน completed a mighty 3 laps ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ
A fabulous event expertly organised by local based We Run, They Run, I Run.
See you all next year โ€ฆ. The cakes ๐Ÿฐ were delicious ๐Ÿ˜›
