ESSCL

The East Sussex Sunday Cross Country League is a set of 6 Cross Country Races of about 5 miles each, normally one per month between October and March.
Entry can be on the day or runners can enter in advance to cover all 6 races.
The organisers work on the basis that it is easier to have people book ahead for all 6 races and therefore offer a substantial discount for those that pre-register.
For the 2023-2024 season the cost for pre-registering comes at the bargain price of £10 for all 6 races whilst entry on the day is £5 per event.
All races take place on Sunday mornings in East Sussex, 09;50am for the junior races and 10:30am for the adult races.
This year’s fixtures are listed below:
- October 12th – Black Cap Lewes (Hosted by Lewes AC)
- November 23rd – Snape Wood Wadhurst (Hosted by Wadhurst Runners)
- December 14th – tbc (Hosted by Eastbourne Rovers)
- January 11th – Seaford Head (Hosted By Seaford Striders)
- February 8th – Whitbread Hollow Eastbourne (Hosted by Run Wednesday)
- March 29th – Pett Wood, Hastings (Hosted By Hastings Runners)
The current club representative is our wonderful Hannah Deubert-Chapman, who will advise on cost and timings via email to all members. The 2025 pre-registration closes on September 26th with payment of £12 payable by BACS to Hailsham Harriers. Please include the reference ‘XC and your surname‘ for the block booking of all 6 events and forward to Hannah your date of Birth and UK Athletics Number.
Indiviadual entries can be made on the day at a price of £6 (affiliated runner) or £8 (unaffiliated runner) per race.
A club Whatsapp group is available to join, should members wish to do so, to discuss car sharing opportunities, cake, shoes, mud, race courses and much more.
Further information can be found either through the East Sussex Country League Facebook page or through their website http://www.eastsussexcrosscountry.co.uk/ which explains the scoring and other rules that apply.
The Sussex Races website also contains details of the race dates.
This event is great for those wanting to improve their cross-country running skills and whilst a competition it has proven to be a friendly event that supports runners of all abilities. If you fancy trying something different than why not give it a try?
