🌳 The Lap (Lake Windemere) 🗺️
14/15 September 2024
By Kirstie 🏊🏻
On the 14th of September, I took on the 47-mile (75km) *Anticlockwise Lap in Windermere* ultra marathon in support of the W.O.L.O. Foundation, to stand by a dear friend battling cancer. It’s been just a year since I joined Hailsham Harriers, but this goal was set long before, and I’m proud to have completed it for such an important cause.
Did I feel ready?
Not exactly.
Did I have the mindset to go for it?
Absolutely.
I knew from the start that running wasn’t in the cards for me, and I’m proud to say I walked the whole course.
No shame in it!
The conditions were tough—wet, windy and very muddy, and a few slips in the mud thrown in for good measure—but the community of runners and walkers kept the energy high, supporting one another throughout.
The route was stunning, with some epic views despite the challenges.
By the time I hit the three mountains after the half way point (and yes, I tackled the last one by torchlight in wind and rain!), I knew I had it in me to finish.
To anyone thinking about setting big goals, do it at your own speed.
Walking or running, it’s all about finishing the journey.
I’m grateful to the Harriers for the support, and for reminding me that no matter how we get there, the achievement is still ours.
Highly recommend The Lap, now I need to complete it clockwise 🙏
⭐️ amazing stuff Kirstie and such a wonderful account. We are incredibly proud of you and how far you’ve come since joining our Harriers family 🖤❤️
