UK Ultra Winter 55 Miles❄️

Saturday 2nd December

With temperatures dipping to -5° two of our fabulous Harriers, Marcos Jarvis and Michael Husarz took part in the UK Ultra 55 Miles.  For those of you who ventured outside on Saturday, to say it was cold was an understatement ❄️

Our two, brave superheroes 🦸🏻‍♂️ started at Helen’s Gardens at 0730 in the dark.  They ran through the cold, through fog, sun, rain and a chilly wind, but importantly they started together and they finished together 🙌

Organised by Neil Kirby and the wonderful UK Ultra events team 🇬🇧(based in Eastbourne), the 55 mile route is a single loop event starting and finishing at Helens Gardens.

The route heads up and over Beachy Head and the famous Seven Sisters, out towards Mount Harry, Blackcap and Lewes, passing Mount Caburn, through Glynde and Firle before finishing back in the gardens. With the course a combination of grass, trails, farm tracks and woodland paths they had plenty of mixed terrain on offer coupled with over 7,500 ft of elevation to navigate 🏔️

130 mighty runners entered the race with 101 finishing.  Marcos 💛 and Mick 💪🏼 completed the 55 miles in an impressive 14:23:59 – we all take our hats 🎩 off to you both.  To run 55 miles is an achievement in itself and to run 55 miles in that weather is ANOTHER level entirely.  We are incredibly proud of you 🥰🙌🖤❤️

Huge kudos to Los Jellybaby 👶🏼, Julie LC 🐝 and Michelle Hollands 🌷 who gave up their time to marshal, and i’m sure were a true asset to all those fabulous runners on a day where courage, strength and determination were required.

If you fancy taking on this event next year it will take place on December 7th 2024.
