1066 Alfriston Trail 7.5K 🌳
Sunday 28th June 2026
One of Sussex’s prettiest villages once again played host to one of its most picturesque races as runners gathered for the latest event in the popular 1066 Trail Races series, the beautiful but demanding Alfriston Trail Run.
Starting and finishing in the heart of the historic village, the 7.5km course packed plenty into its relatively short distance.
Winding through rolling farmland 🐮, woodland tracks and open South Downs trails, runners were rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views before returning via the historic Old Coach Road. With over 80% of the route on trails and more than 130 metres of climbing, it was a race with plenty of challenges.
Two Harriers, Mike Leigh ⭐ and Nicky Twilley 🇮🇪 embraced the warm conditions and the challenging terrain with smiles, determination and plenty of team spirit🖤❤️
The climbs certainly made the lungs work overtime, while the flowing descents rewarded those brave enough to let gravity do the hard work.
Both Nicky and Mike produced two excellent podium finishes with Mike 3rd 🥉 overall in a time of 36:20 and Nicky 🇮🇪 second 🥈 place female in 47:44 🙌
The 1066 Trail Races have quickly become a favourite among local runners thanks to their friendly atmosphere, superb organisation and varied off-road courses. The Alfriston event was no exception, with fantastic marshals, stunning scenery and a welcoming finish-line atmosphere making it another memorable morning on the Sussex trails 🍰
Congratulations to everyone who took on the challenge. Whether simply enjoying a glorious morning exploring the South Downs or chasing personal goals, every runner can be proud of another excellent performance in one of the county’s most scenic trail races.
