๐ŸŒŠ The Folkestone Rotary Half Marathon โ˜€๏ธย

Sunday 29 September 2024
By Oli P ๐Ÿ’ท & KT Reed ๐Ÿฆ†
On Sunday 29th Katy and I made our way over to Folkestone to run the Folkestone Rotary Half Marathon. Described as a fairly flat course, we went on a mini road trip, strapped on our shoes, and made our way to the start line.
Katy had forgotten her watch โŒš๏ธ(happens to the best of us), so we spent the first 9-10kms together before parting ways to continue the race in our own way.
The start was odd and slightly loopy (not unlike myself ๐Ÿ˜‚ ) with some decent downhill. Suspicious for a flat-ish course and somewhat foreboding.
After a few kms we made our way along the promenade for a good chunk of the race, enjoying some tail winds ๐Ÿ’จ and battling the headwind as we turned around. There was a lot of support out there, with many cheers of “Come on, Hailsham!”, which was lovely.
At 12 miles, it’s time to leave the promenade. What’s this? It’s the downhill. In reverse ๐Ÿ˜ฌ. After a frightfully steep and long climb, the end is near.
I had pondered whether to take this one slightly easier, but apparently I’m a sucker for a half marathon. I left with a new PB of 1:37:07 ๐Ÿ™Œ
After battling with recent injury and debating whether or not to take part, Katy ๐Ÿฆ† surprised herself with a new PB of 1:42:12. Plus she snagged a cheeky 10k PB ๐Ÿคฉ
๐ŸŽค Super running Oli and KT, congratulations on those new PBโ€™s and thank you for submitting a fab write-up of your day by the sea ๐ŸŒŠ
