The annual Crowborough 10K brought with it the usual mix of brisk November air, cheerful marshals, and the iconic double ascent of Palesgate Lane, a climb we love to hate and hate to love.

Despite the cool temperatures and a light breeze, conditions were close to perfect for racing after heavy rain ☔️ the night before and close to the start at 10am.  This still did not deter a hardy field of 312 runners in the 10K event.

The atmosphere at the start line was friendly and energetic ⚡️, with runners swapping predictions, layering and de-layering, and nervously reminding each other that yes,  we do the hill twice.

Once the race got underway, the field quickly stretched out along the scenic loop, with the early downhill giving runners confidence before the climbing began. The marshals provided exceptional encouragement, as they waved runners past the ford 🌊 and around the slippery bridge.

We put in a brilliant showing of 38 Harriers for the final race in the 2025 SGP series, who each ran to score points with many first timers and plenty adding new course personal bests.

It was a standout performance for the ladies – huge congratulations to Alice 🐈 who finished 2nd 🥈 female and 1st 🥇 senior, to Claire Keith 🍒 who placed 3rd 🥉 female and 1st 🥇 V35, and to Katy 🏃🏻‍♀️ 1st 🥇 V40 with the trio 🏃🏻‍♀️🏃🏼‍♀️🏃🏻‍♀️scooping 1st ladies team.  Huge shout out to Lady Delves 👸🏼 2nd V70 🙌

For the chaps, notable performances were run by Graham P (uns) 😂 2nd V65, Chris Doherty 🚀 4th Senior, Rob Chrystie 🍪 4th V45 and Robbie 🇮🇹 2nd V75

With medals collected 🎖️ and post-race smiles 😃 it was into the warm for tea and cakes 🧁 🎂

Congratulations to everyone who took part, whether you raced flat-out, used it as a winter training benchmark, or simply survived Palesgate Lane twice without swearing out loud 😂

Looking ahead, this performance sets a strong tone for the winter season ❄️ See you there next year — same hill, same smiles, and possibly the same discussion ‘through the ford or over the bridge’?
