The Funchal Half Marathon is a sporting event of an international nature which takes place annually in the city of Funchal, Madeira, and brings together athletes from many countries in a trend pronounced in leisure and recreation.

The Madeira Athletics Association (AARAM) promotes this major international sporting event with three main races on the event list, the Funchal Marathon, the Funchal Half Marathon and the Mini marathon.

All races are run on a flat course, almost entirely on a closed, attractively landscaped circuit 🌲 offering the perfect setting for healthy competition between athletes from different nationalities whilst enjoying the Pearl of the Atlantic 🌊

Our very own Pearl of Hailsham, Maria Stanford, took to the skies, jetting off with hubby and chief cheer leader, Mel to enjoy the beautiful sunshine ☀️and take part in the Half marathon.

Doesn’t she look stunning, both before and after a fabulous run where she joined 500 runners.  Whilst we were all freezing 🥶 in the UK, temperatures in Portugal were sunny & warm.  Maria stormed to the finish in a magnificent 2:51:24, enjoying a well earned lunch and plenty of wine to celebrate🍷 🏅
