The Tempo Last Leg Relays is a running event with a twist …. 4 runners but 5 legs.  The fifth leg is run by the whole relay team with their finishing time taken as the last team member crosses the line.  Each leg is approximately 3kms (1.77 miles) from the Eastbourne Water Works, along the seafront turning at the tennis courts and heading back.

It was amazing to see Eastbourne seafront filled with local running clubs, excitement, high spirits and plenty of pre-race nerves.

A sea of black and red vests gathered before the start with Hailsham Harriers fielding nine teams for the evening with the running order chosen by each team member.

Huge Congratulations go our Hailsham Harriers Ladies Team, Alissa, The Leeks, Rachel Hillman and Tinks who took 1st place for the Ladies and 9th team across the line overall.  Hailsham Harriers Ladies have positioned 1st in the Ladies category since the event started in 2019 … whoop whoop. 

A massive congratulations to everyone that ran, gave it their best shot, who stepped in last minute, cheered, supported and took pictures.   It’s a hard distance to pace, so well done all.  

It’s not often we get to see such a huge contingent of mighty Harriers, the atmosphere was electric, not just amongst teams and team mates but also to our friends, past Harriers and those runners in our neighbouring clubs – the Harriers Spirit certainly shone through, and for those that sadly couldn’t make it, you were with us all the way.

Amongst the sea of black and red vests we also saw some familiar faces doing their bit for inter-club/group relations so a huge well done also goes to Gary Smith, Dave Mercer, Ross Brocklehurst , Aislinn Darvell, Jenny Katsoni and Gareth Taplin.   A big shout out to Wednesday Warriors Ross , Aislinn , Gareth and George who took 1st place in the mixed team category.  We may sometimes wear different colours but we share a bond of effort, achievement and supporting one another whatever.
