Rye Ancient Trails 15K & 30K ๐ŸŒฒ๐Ÿฅต

Sunday 10th September 2023
Organised by Nice Work ๐Ÿ’š and starting and finishing in the medieval town of Rye, this challenging circular route winds its way through ancient woodland and farmland on trails, footpaths and quiet country lanes, linking the Norman churches โ›ช๏ธ of Rye, Iden, Beckley, Northiam and Peasmarsh – a true steeplechase!
Itโ€™s certainly not a flat route with 1,500ft ๐Ÿ˜ฑ of climb and plenty of gates and stiles to be negotiated, but the stunning scenery and beautiful surroundings kept the runners occupied on a scorching day โ˜€๏ธ with temps a whopping 29ยฐ ๐Ÿฅต
219 runners participated in the 15K with our fabulous coach Annette ๐Ÿ’š third placed female over the line in a rapido 1:21:56 and first in age ๐Ÿ†, followed by Nemo ๐Ÿ  & Cross Country Hannah ๐Ÿ•๏ธ in 2:00:55, Katie Manley ๐ŸŒป and Michelle Hollands ๐Ÿ’• 2:01:05 and Maria Stanford ๐Ÿ‘ง๐Ÿผ in 2:28:52.
Over in the 30K, 212 runners were joined by seven mighty Hailsham Harriers braving the hot hot hot temperatures and undulating route.ย  First over the line saw Ads ๐Ÿฆˆ in 2:39:37 followed by The Leeks ๐Ÿช in 2:55:10, third place female ๐Ÿฅ‰ and winning her age category ๐Ÿ†.ย  The Bassett Hound ๐Ÿถ and Robin ๐Ÿ„๐Ÿผโ€โ™‚๏ธ joined forces to finish in a comfortable 3:13:43 whilst our fabulous Steph ๐Ÿง and Victoria ๐Ÿ‘ฎ๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ duo flew around the course together (despite a terrible tumble from Steph) in a mighty 4:25:58.ย  Ros Thomson ๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿผโ€โš•๏ธ, who is currently training hard for the Beachy Head Marathon was all smiles as she crossed the line, having loved every minute of this race to finish in 4:53:41 ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ
A special shout out to our second claim Harrier, David Woollard ๐ŸŽ๏ธ who is taking on the Loch Ness Marathon ๐Ÿฆ• on October 1st.ย  David had a storming run in the 30K even managing a sprint finish to position 7th overall in 2:33:31 โค๏ธ
Impressive times and perfomances ๐Ÿ–คโค๏ธ on such a hot day.ย  We are truly proud of you all.
Thank you to the awesome Mel Stanford, chief supporter and always on hand with his camera ๐Ÿ“ธ to snap our black and red family ๐Ÿ’•
Monies raised at the event went to the Oliver Curd Trust – A local charity that provides holiday accommodation to families affected by childhood cancer and other life threatening and life-limiting conditions, including those experiencing bereavement.
