🌊 Brighton Half Marathon 🍨 💨

Over eight thousand runners turned out for the Rubix VT Brighton Half Marathon on Sunday 26th February, in fresh conditions 🥶, running 13.1 miles around the city.

The event kicked off at 9am with the Youth Race on Hove Lawns, a 1-mile event for junior runners aged between 7 and 17. The Wheelchair race followed on Madeira Drive at 9:27am, followed by the main race at 9:30am, started by rugby legend Gareth Thomas CBE 🏉 

The route took runners past the seafront cliff tops of east Brighton, the Royal Pavilion🕌, The Hilton Brighton Metropole Hotel 🏨 , the i360, the beach huts 🛖 of Hove seafront and the iconic Brighton Palace Pier 🎡

The field featured thousands of runners new to the half marathon distance, experienced half marathoners and elite runners, with plenty of spectators lining the route.

Running for Hailsham saw Woolley 🧶 cross the line, first Harrier home in a rapid 1:34:29, followed by Andrew Moore 🏃🏻 running a new PB in 1:40:31 ⭐️, Oli Paterson zooming to a new PB in 1:41:34, Abi 🌷 racing over the line in a sensational 1:43:10, Kev Morris 🤩 setting a new PB of 2:05:01, Claire Hope 🌹 flying to a new PB 🌟 of 2:23:58, Jayne 👃🏻 2:26:41, Wendy HQ 🌺 2:37:17 and Anne, looking like she was enjoying every second of that brutal wind, to finish in a mighty 3:36:30 👏🏻 

Well done team black and red 🖤❤️ congratulations to you all, super impressive running in that headwind for the last 5K 💪🏼 you guys rock 💥 

In the men’s race, Marshall Smith took first place with a time of 1 hour, 7 minutes and 17 seconds whilst in the women’s race Cassie Thorp set a new course record, finishing in 1 hour, 15 minutes and 34 seconds 🤩 

Alongside the elite field, thousands of charity runners took to the streets of the city, raising money for local charities such as the The Sussex Beacon and Rockinghorse, as well as national charities including Alzheimer’s Society 💜 and Macmillan Cancer Support 💚 .
