Run Dorney Marathon and Half Marathon
Sunday 8th October 2023
Home to London 2012′s Olympic rowing events and situated near the village of Dorney in Buckinghamshire, Dorney Lake is a purpose built rowing lake with grounds that provide a perfect backdrop to running 🚣♀️
The half marathon and marathon are both described as ‘flat and fast courses, ideal for a chip timed personal best’.
Running for the Harriers in the marathon saw Aislinn and Rob Chrystie. Despite temperatures a tropical 24° and very little shelter on the course, they both ran exceptional races.
Aislinn had this to say …… ‘I don’t normally do running updates but I’m quite proud of this one 🥰
The last few months have been a bit challenging, but my need and love for running has kept me at peace. Just my dodgy toe nails, questionable music and the road/trails keeping me grounded 🐾💗
As I was at my dad’s this weekend I decided to give Dorney Marathon a go as it’s only down the road! I had no expectations, anything sub 4 was the goal, if it turned really bad it was just a Sunday long run!. A PB (sub 3.50) even better!
I ran on my own the entire race, completely to feel, making sure I felt relaxed and kept to a rhythm. I was just waiting for the dodgy feelings to come at me at any point 🤭
But they didn’t! Unlike my normal planning, I got my hydration right (listening to expert advice given to much better marathon runners 😂) and as the miles ticked on I realised I could actually do quite well!
It hasn’t sunk in yet, and never did I ever think it possible I would run such a time, especially off just my day to day training.
Official time 3.02.18 ! 😱
And for Rob, sadly not the quite the race he had planned but nevertheless he didn’t give up 💪🏼 he dug deep and crossed the finish line in true Harriers spirit 🖤❤️ Whatever you may think of your day Rob we all admire your determination and courageous attitude
We are proud of you both for what you achieved that day.
