๐ 2025 Sussex Athletics Track and Field Masters League ๐๐๏ธโโ๏ธ
This year we are once again privileged to take part in the Masters (Over 35)Track and Field League organised by Sussex Athletics.
Four events make up the league which take part from May through to August. ย These are relaxed evenings giving club members a chance to show off their throwing ๐คพโโ๏ธ, jumping ๐คธ๐ผโโ๏ธand running ๐๐ปโโ๏ธ skills whilst competing against other local clubs including Eastbourne Rovers, Lewes, HY Runners, Haywards Heath Harriers, Hastings AC, Worthing Harriers, Brighton and Hove AC, and Arena 80
This year all four fixtures were held at Lewes Athletics track and were superbly organised by Lewes AC and Haywards Heath Harriers.
Commonly known as the Sussex Veterans League each team consists of men and women competitors over the age of 35 with individual track and field events for over 35, over 50 and over 60.
Hugest thanks go to Nemo ๐ , Linford Crusty ๐ช, Louisa ๐ and Andy Moore ๐๐ฝ for their help in organising/directing and supervising all the excitement ๐ of our Hailsham athletes at each event.
These matches always seem a little daunting at first but once there you soon see that thereโs nothing to worry about, in fact they are fun, relaxed evenings, giving us a rare opportunity to do something a little different.
They have often been described as โa sports day for adultsโ and this sums it up perfectly. ย Most people there are of the same feeling – a night to simply have a go! And for HH we did just that!๐ช๐ผ
Everyone gave it their best and in doing so we achieved first positions, many club records broken and new ones set, and plenty of PBโs achieved. ย Above all though, we laughed and supported ๐คโฅ๏ธ
Some notable achievements included;
Linford Crusty ๐ช beasted everything, came first place ๐ฅ in the long jump at match one and always role modelled great team spirit.
Coach Annette ๐ wowed us with her amazing throwing skills whilst displaying encouragement to all.
Chris Shoult ๐จ jumped out of this world with his long legs at match two in the triple jump ๐คฉ
Darren now knows how to throw the shot ๐ฑ and is an expert at the hammer ๐จ thanks to his determination and some top tips from the HY coach.
Julie Chicken ๐ broke and set an enormous amount of club records over three of the four matches in the javelin, long jump, 400m, 100m, discus and shot
Nikki WS โ๏ธ discovered her inner Shakiri Richardson ๐
๐ป rocking up simply to support her team and ended up storming the 100m at match 2 ๐
BIG Si ๐ฅ now maintains his title of our resident top athlete for the 2000m walk – he finished first place๐ฅ at match one
Eddie ๐ showcased his Discus and triple jump skills – a mighty display after his toe ๐ฆถ๐ฝ injury earlier in the year.
Nemo ๐ claimed a club record in the high jump ๐, and jumped for England in the triple jump ๐
Kirstie ๐๐ป despite a calve injury aced all the throwing events and had so much fun she was gutted to miss one event.
Mark Pope ๐๐ป competed against some big names in each of his track events and gave them all a run for their money!๐คโฅ๏ธ
Tina โฝ๏ธ filled almost all of the gaps for us at match 3 and at match 4 didnโt let us down despite landing ๐ฌ from her hols just a few hours before ๐
Belly ๐๏ธ rocked it for the Over 50โs ๐ช๐ผ in the track events
Lisa PH ๐งก loved every second of her track and field experience – just a shame the others fell on a Wednesday ๐
Hannah nailed her field events showing baby oscar ๐ถ๐ผ how its done as he watched on the sidelines with grandma ๐๐ป
Paul Mealing โ๏ธ flew in for match 3 casually taking second place ๐ฅ in the 1000m walk before jetting off under orange skies ๐
Louisa ๐ nailed everything from javelin to the track events even winning her final race, the 100m at match 4
And Robbie ๐ฎ๐น, Graham P (uns) ๐ and Andy Moore displayed our black and red spirit turning up for all 4 events! Too job lads ๐ Thank you โบ๏ธ
Quote of the season goes to Mark Pope ๐๐ป on the whats app chat โthe walk is my favourite event, the more you shake the hips, the louder the support from the sidelinesโ ๐
Our upmost thanks go to all involved in the organisation, the results, the sussex officials and all the volunteers for making this happen.
Donโt be afraid to give it a try next year, you may just love it ๐ฅฐ
The pics highlight a fab season โฌ๏ธ
