The 2025 Sussex Downs Trail Run delivered a classic Sussex winter trail experience — a mix of challenging climbs, scenic sections, and rewarding finishes.

Whether participants were chasing a personal best on a half marathon trail 🌳 or simply soaking in the landscape on the 12 km course, the vibe was friendly, scenic, and supportive 🙌

Darren Grice 🏃🏽 flew our Harriers colours in the half marathon distance, kicking off from Plumpton Racecourse 🐎 at the foot of the South Downs.

The haf marathon course began with a flatter tree-lined 3.5 km warm-up section, followed by a tough climb up to the South Downs Way that rewarded runners with sweeping views over the Sussex countryside and Seven Sisters landscapes.

From the high points, the route dipped and rose on a mix of chalk trails and country tracks before a scenic descent and a flat final section back to the finish 🏁

Darren tackled the rolling chalk hills of this challenging course finishing in a superb 2:17:38.

The event was well-organised by Run Rebel events with clearly marked trails and encouraging marshals.

All finishers received a high-quality medal 🏅, finisher’s gift 🎁 , and a refreshing drink 🍷 at the finish — a well-deserved celebration after a proper trail challenge.
