โ๏ธ The 24th Bewl 15 Mile ๐ฒ ๐๏ธย
Sunday July 7th 2024
Voted as one of the UKโs best races and organised by Wadhurst Runners in conjunction with the Nice Work Events team, a record turnout of 31 determined Harriers faced the challenging, multi-terrain course around Bewl Water Reservoir.
Two distances were on offer on the day, a 5-mile and a 15-mile race. With a little of everything thrown in, from tree routes to gravel, hills to country lanes, sweeping meadows and steep descents, a combined total of 540 people braved the challenging courses.
In previous years we have seen extreme temperatures ๐ฅต but this year we were faced with rain, rain and more rain โ๏ธ , making many parts of both courses a complete mud fest.
This event is always well organised, and the friendly marshals excelled themselves this year especially the wonderful tail runners in the 15-mile, who we recognised from Rye ๐
In the 15-mile race first over the line in a mighty impressive performance saw the incredible Linford Crusty ๐ช take 7th place overall in 1:44:06 breaking the long-standing MV40 club record. ย Chris Doherty ๐๏ธ , taking on his first trail run event finished in a sensational 1:49:10 followed by Captain Bartz ๐จ๐ปโโ๏ธ 1:54:06 before Aislnn ๐พ and Alice ๐ who had worked together throughout the race, both crossed the line, hand in hand to finish 2nd and 3rd females in 1:54:24.
Big shout out to Graham Pundye ๐ and Aislinn ๐พ who both took the win in their respective age categories.
Louisa Geer ๐น ran the event to raise money for the Kent Surrey Sussex air ambulance ๐ in memory of her Nanna, Celia. ย Louisa welcomed the challenge of running her furthest mileage and crossed the line to huge cheers and support from a sea of black and red vests ๐ค โฅ๏ธ
Over in the 5-mile event, Steph ๐ง flew the Harriers flag producing a strong performance to finish in 45:39 and placing first V45 ๐ She then stayed on in soggy conditions to support her fellow team mates ๐ฅฐ๐ฅฐ
Congratulations to everyone that took part, that last uphill mile to the finish line ๐ nearly killed us all but showed, yet again, that with determination, courage and true grit, anything can be achieved๐คโค๏ธ ย
