Saturday 22nd October- 8am

There’s plenty of ultra-marathons out there but there’s nothing like taking part in an inaugural event and a hilly one at that 😳….…. The Beachy Head Ultra.  

This event saw 200 runners take part in the challenging 32-mile course.  The route took in a combination of both the marathon route and 10K which must have been an added challenge to leave the cheers at the finish line after 26 miles and head on to run another 10K 😱

Five tough Harriers 🖤❤️ – Wendy Robson, Lisa Little Legs, Charlie Long, Gavin Watson-Jones and Roberto took on the Ultra event and they smashed it 💥 

Gavin Watson-Jones crossed the line first Harrier home in a remarkable time of 6:22:05 🤩 

Lisa Little Legs 6:25:48, Charlie 6:30:31, and Wendy 6:31:54 pretty much ran the entire miles together…. What a fabulous trio.  For Charlie this was her first ultra and wow, what a one to pick.  Again, the pictures say it all, those amazing smiles at the finish.

And finally, another of our club legends – Robbie, He ran the first official Beachy Head Marathon (previously known as the seven sisters marathon) back in 2001 and last year he ran all three events over the course of two weekends.  When they announced there would be an ultra-event this year, he couldn’t resist 😉 At the young age of 73 and despite the 10K signage having been packed up, his determination got him through to finish in 8:45:55 👏🏻 

Huge congratulations to you all on five superb runs on such a tough, brutal course 💪🏼 

Huge shout out to Robbie’s carer and fellow Harrier👨🏻‍⚕️– Gary ‘Fluffy’ Smith who stayed with him from 22 miles and wasn’t going to let him finish alone.
