Brighton Phoenix 10K
Brighton Phoenix 10K 🦅
Wednesday 12th July – 7:30pm
The Phoenix 10K is the 8th race in the Sussex Grand Prix and is organised by local running club Brighton Phoenix.
As an amateur athletics club, funds raised on the night went straight back into the club to help with the development of young and old athletes alike with part of the funds also going to their partner charity, the Brighton-based Clock Tower Sanctuary.
This 10K course is an out-and-back, fast, flat course which runs west towards Shoreham on the promenade, past Hove Lagoon, and out towards Shoreham Docks where the race turns at 5km returning to the finish at Hove Lawns.
With temperatures a tropical 24° and a ruby super moon due later that evening, the atmosphere was electric along the seafront as 600 runners took part in the sold out race.
Dodging the odd bike and running through the waft of beach barbecues, six Harriers took part. Rachel Hillman flew over the line to win second female in a rapid time of 37:25. Carl Barton (Barts) raced to another fantastic personal best of 41:29 followed by Helen O’Sullivan (Tinks) in 43:00 also securing a new personal best. Gary Smith (Fluffy) ran his best 10K time since 2018, crossing the line in 46:56. It was great to see Audrey Haddon sprinting to the finish to nail 48:16 with the beautiful Charlie Long putting on a super strong performance in tough conditions to finish in 49:26.
Huge congratulations to everyone that ran and braved the tropical conditions of the night and a huge well done to Rachel.
