Whilst we were all wrapped up in jackets, hats and gloves 🧤 on Sunday morning, Wendy and daughter Jess (founder of the fabulous group, Run Talk Run), were enjoying the beautiful temperatures of 22° in sunny Greece ☀️ 

Wendy 🦵🏻 and Jess 🥰 headed to the sunshine to take part in the 40th anniversary year of the Athens Marathon.

The Athens Authentic Marathon covers the same ground that the Athenian soldier, Pheidippides, ran when he brought news of the victory over the Persians from the battlefield of Marathon two thousand five hundred years ago in 490 BC.  Over seventeen thousand runners crossed the finish line at the magnificent Olympic Stadium, the birthplace of the modern Olympic games in 1896 – a truly unique and memorable route.  

The route takes runners from the ancient city of Marathon, along a 12K flat stretch to warm up the legs 🦵🏻, before a demanding 19K of slowly climbing hills, but what goes up must come down as the final 11K head downhill to the Olympic Stadium finish line and roaring spectators 🙌 

Wendy ran a magnificent race, hoping for under five hours and happily beaming with delight to finish in 4:09:22 whilst daughter Jess crossed the line in a superb 5:02:28.

Amongst their post race celebrations they shared a cocktail 🍹 or two with our fabulous Jayne and Abi Morris who are currently holidaying there for Abi’s birthday which she celebrated last Saturday 🎈
