Just a few short months ago, Sarah Hookway-Dyer 🩷was celebrating graduating from our Hailsham Harriers’ Couch to 5K programme.

Fast forward to the weekend of June 20th, and Sarah was taking on one of the UK’s most iconic ultra-marathons, the Race to the King.

Covering a gruelling 55km across the spectacular South Downs (advertised as 50km but with plenty of extra miles thrown in for good measure!), race to the King 🤴🏻 is far more than just a run.  With relentless climbs, technical trails, exposed ridges and breath-taking scenery stretching across the South Downs National Park, it is an event that tests every ounce of physical and mental strength.

Sarah embraced every challenge the course threw at her with determination, and an ever-present smile 😊, crossing the finish line in an incredible 11:13:00.  It was a performance that demonstrated not only her growing strength but also the positivity that has already made her such a valued member of our Hailsham Harriers family.

To think that Sarah only recently completed our Couch to 5K programme makes her achievement all the more remarkable.  Going from running her first 5K to completing an ultra-marathon of 55 kilometres in such a short space of time is nothing short of inspirational ⭐.  It is a shining example of what can be achieved through consistency, belief, hard work and the encouragement of fellow club members 🖤❤️

🎤 Everyone at Hailsham Harriers is immensely proud of Sarah. She has shown that amazing things can happen when you dare to step outside your comfort zone, and her journey will undoubtedly inspire many others currently taking their own first running steps to dream a little bigger.

Congratulations, Sarah, on an absolutely phenomenal achievement. From Couch to 5K graduate 👩🏼‍🎓 to ultra-marathon finisher… what an incredible journey, and we truly can’t wait to see where your running adventures take you next.
