RACE REPORT

Hailsham Harriers held their 31st John Faulds Hellingly 10k Road Race with a magnificent entry of over 300 runners taking to the circular undulating course through the village and taking in Magham Down, the outskirts of Cowbeech and into Cinderford Lane and Grove Hill. This event which forms part of the Sussex Road Race Grand Prix series saw 37 Harriers in the mix with many other club members involved in the organisation on the day. The threat of early morning dark clouds saw some light patchy rain but with no wind this was quite refreshing to the competitors on the course. The quality field saw the current course record broken by the overall winner Paul Navesey of Crawley AC in 33m47s after an early challenge from Hastings AC's Daniel Anderson a previous winner in this event. Harriers David Ayling is still getting quicker and his fine run saw him first home for the club in 7th with 35m44s and Tom Clewley also produced a blistering pace to come home 23rd one ahead of Sue Fry who claimed second lady overall from the winner Fiona De Mauny Walton AC whose time was 38m55s.

In the overall team placings for the men Haywards Heath Harriers were 1st with 43pts, Brighton Arena 80 2nd 58pts and Wadhurst Runners 3rd 117pts and for the ladies Lewes AC 1st 236pts, Hailsham Harriers 2nd 285pts with Wadhurst Runners 3rd 361pts.

Harriers would like to thank Hellingly Parish Council for the use of their Hall as HQ, farmer Richard Lee for the Broad Farm field and especially to the residents of Hellingly for having the event in their village and to sponsors Tempo Running Shop Eastbourne, Waitrose Hailsham, "A brush with Fate" Decorators and Rare Repro graphics, signage, design and print.

Harriers times and positions were as follows: 7th David Ayling 35m44s, 23rd Tom Clewley 39m20s, 24th Sue Fry (2nd lady) 39m29s, 39th Liz Lumber (5th lady)41m34s,52nd Steve Delea 42m46s, 56th Giles Bowmer 43m08s, 77th Rob Crouch 45m05s, 80th Mark Pope 45m14s, 89th Ian Turnbull 46m13s, 92nd Darren Munn 46m25s, 99th Shaun Webster 46m46s, 106th Mark Bassett 46m56s, 110th Tina Macenhill 47m24s, 112th Wendy Robson 47m32s, 118th Don Currie 47m59s, 120th Victoria Burford 48m07s, 127th Neal Robinson 48m47s, 129th Alan Clarke 49m04s, 137th Mags Southam 49m27s, 139th Kelly Tattam 49m35s, 141st Lucy Wright 49m40s, 143rd Helen O'Sullivan 49m47s, 144th Frances Delves 49m51s, 150th Louise Taylor 50m48s, 154th Becky Holland 51m09s, 155th Tracey Erridge 52m01s, 175th Alan Hide 52m53s, 179th Roberto Proietti 53m03s, 180th Richard Tickner 53m04s, 190th Samantha Massingham 53m39s, 206th John Taylor 55m11s, 210th Ian Davis 55m52s, Collette Stean 58m27s, 248th Nina Rumsey 61m34s, 288th Eleanor Ruffell 75m30s, 290th Rikki Wheaton 80m10s, 291st Linda Rozentals 80m37s.

Herstmonceux Relays 2015

Team success at Herstmonceux Castle Open Relay

Hailsham Harriers held their annual event in the grounds of Hestmonceux Castle (with kind permission from the owners) and a massive entry this year of 98 teams took part. The multi terrain course was over one and a half miles using a single loop of roads and tracks and thankfully the earlier forecast of rain did not materialise. Teams each consisting of four runners one to race each leg came from regional running clubs and other sporting clubs (well done Hellingly RFC) with youngsters also well represented in the mix. Hastings AC A team showed the others the quickest turn of pace with an overall win in a time of 29m55s for the 6 miles and their star runner Max Thomas also posted the fastest leg time of the evening with 6m56s the others in their team were Gary Foster 7m40s, Joe Body 7m45s, and Dan Russell 7m34s . They were pushed hard by an Eastbourne Rovers squad aptly named "World of Payne" who were runners up in 30m34s from Hastings Runners third and Lewes AC fourth. In the ladies teams it was Lewes who came through into first and second with their A and B teams timing 34m45s and 35m53s respectively (12th and 18th overall) with Hailsham Harriers known as "Keep up with the Birds" third comprising Sue Fry 8m31s, Cat Bounds 9m12s, Liz Lumber 9m07s, and Alissa Ellis 9m155s in 36m05s. Harriers also fielded a Junior girls team with Holly Hinton, Harriett Bloor, Zoe Palframan and Poppy Ellis who all had superb runs claiming 9th ladies and 56th spot overall in 42m40s. The mens Harriers A team also put in a solid performance with 16th place in 35m35s and the club also fielded a Harriers Vets team 27th in 37m29s, B team 37th in 39m38s and C team in 46th with 41m34s. The real stars of the night must go to Paul Eccles and his small team of helpers for giving nearly 400 runners such a great evening in what was intended to be fun but also proved to be most competitive as well.

Hailsham Harriers Club Track Championship 2014 Final Results.

The Track Championship is a series of 7 events (6 to score) held at the Battle Road Track in Hailsham each summer. Members compete against each other in the series and the competition is decided on points.

This year in the mens event there was a thrilling finish with just 1 point between first and second with Paul Henderson in first place (114 points) and Huw Jones (113 points)in second.

In the ladies event it was sisters Jo Curran(118 points) first and Kelly Tatum (108 points) second.

Turkey Trot 2013

Robinson takes the turkey in Harriers club race

The Hailsham Harriers pre Christmas club event the Turkey Trot was held over a 2.5 mile course in Hailsham taking in London Road, Hempstead Lane, Gleneagles, Diplocks Way and South Road and a record turnout of 39 competitors took to the streets in this handipcap event.

Runners started off in a time trial style start with 10 second invervals and each runner was given a handicap from 0 through to 13mins and this created some great racing and as usual produced a surprise winner.

This year saw Neal Robinson come home in first place with a watch time of 22m38s which included a 3 min handicap.

The event gave all those a chance of competing whatever their abilty and threw up the following final positions.
